Jose Mourinho certainly wasn’t a universally popular appointment among Tottenham fans, and I’m not sure he has done anything since taking charge to swing that opinion in his favour. That being said, I think there is enough understanding surrounding the club around the weaknesses in the squad and our terrible injury luck that he hasn’t lost any of his backers either.
The Special One’s reign so far has been anything but special; it has been decidedly mediocre. Where the Portuguese was expected to make an impact – on our defensive solidity and our performance in cup competitions – he has failed on both accounts. But have Mourinho as our manager could pay off tonight when West Ham United visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Because Jose has complete authority over David Moyes in their head-to-head records as managers, with eight wins and five draws from 13 games.
While Moyes’ Everton were making a habit of upsetting the rest of the league’s top clubs, Mourinho’s Chelsea were beating them 4-1 and 3-0.
And Mourinho has remained undefeated against Moyes through the Scotsman’s tenures at Manchester United, Sunderland and West Ham.
Moyes averages 0.38 points per Premier League game against Jose. It is his worst record against any manager he has faced eight times or more (26).
