Latest: Daniel Levy is eyeing up a ‘bumper £110million’ deal for Premier League duo in order to send potential managers a clear message

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is ‘eyeing up £110m double deal’ ahead of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham are reportedly set for a ‘huge overhaul at the club’ with the club set to appoint a new sporting director and a new manager.

And the report by the Daily Express claims that the club are planning to double raid Leicester City to sign James Maddison and Harvey Barnes in a ‘bumper £110million’ deal.

The report claims that the club are ‘keeping tabs’ on James Maddison and Barnes and that the club thinks splashing the cash on the duo will send a clear message to the potential managerial candidates that the club will be ready to financially back them.

Spurs have been long interested in James Maddison and as per the latest reports they are ‘pushing to get a deal done’ for the England midfielder with the fee said to be around £60m. The attacking midfielder once again impressed for the Foxes despite their poor season, having scored nine goals and eight assists in the Premier League so far. Maddison could have costed way more but the fact that his contract ends next summer will help Spurs get him for cheap.

Similarly, Harvey Barnes who has been one of the club’s consistent performers over the years and has once again impressed with 10 goals in a season where the club has struggled. According to the report, he is set to cost Spurs around the £60m region, considering he still has a lengthy contract with the club.

The report states that Tottenham believes that signing these two players will send an encouraging message to potential managerial candidates.

However, some may argue that it will also highlight Levy’s controlling nature and his interference in transfers, which has been a problem for the club in the past.

Levy’s involvement in transfers has driven away previous managers, and any new manager would want to know how much control they have over the club’s transfer strategy and signings.

Nonetheless, adding Maddison and Barnes to the Tottenham squad would be a great boost, as both players have been consistently impressive for Leicester over the years.
