Latest report reveals Antonio Conte considered signing one of the best in the world while at Spurs

Daily Mail has revealed that Antonio Conte at one point was weighing up a move to sign Cristiano Ronaldo at Tottenham.

According to the report, Daniel Levy and Conte were discussing to bring in Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo to Spurs when his relationship with Erik ten Hag was deteriorating.

Ronaldo was not getting along with his manager due to the lack of playing time he was getting under him. The Dutchman was not afraid to bench him regardless of his status and the Portuguese was getting frustrated.

The triggering point was when Ronaldo stormed off after from the stadium after refusing to come on from the bench against Tottenham.

As a result, the manager punished him by banishing him from the team and making him play with the U21s until he apologised to him and the team.

To make things worse Ronaldo did an explosive interview with Piers Morgan in which he publicly criticised Erik Ten Hag, the club and the club’s training facilities.

Soon after his contract with the club was torn apart and he was a free agent for a couple of months before signing for Saudi club Al-Nassr.

But before agreeing a deal with the Saudi club, the footballing icon was looking to sign for a club that was in the Champions League.

And according to Daily Mail, Tottenham were one of the clubs that considered making an approach for him before deciding against it.

It’s reported that Levy and Conte who shared a good relationship then discussed the move informally among themselves before mutually deciding not to sign him.

Signing him would not have worked out considering the only way he would have fit in if Kane was taken out or moved.

He joined the Saudi club becoming the highest paid player in the world meanwhile Spurs’ season soon derailed.

They got knocked out of every competition, they underwent an injury crisis, saw their manager publicly lash out on the players and the club and then get sacked. To make things worse, their director Fabio Paratici had to step back from his role after the ban on him was extended worldwide by FIFA.

Tottenham will be facing Everton on Monday under Cristian Stellini who has been named the interim manager following Conte’s sacking.

The are currently 4th in the table at the moment but Liverpool,Newcastle and even Brighton for that matter are all breathing down their neck. Hence Spurs can not afford anymore slip ups.
