Tottenham make decision on the future of 27-yr-old after Postecoglou’s arrival

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly decided not to sign Clement Lenglet on a permanent deal from Barcelona.

The 27-year-old Frenchman was on loan at the North London club this season and he had a mixed spell in the Premier League.

There have been rumours that Tottenham could look to sign the player permanently, but a report from Football Insider claims that they have now made a decision regarding the 27-year-old’s future. He is likely to be the first outgoing under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs can bring in a quality alternative. Spurs must look to sign a top-class central defender to partner Cristian Romero.

Postecoglou cannot afford to head into the new season with his current defensive options. Spurs were quite vulnerable at the back last year and they will have to tighten up defensively.

Lenglet has not been at his best since his move to the Premier League and the Frenchman earns around £204,000 per week. It makes sense for Tottenham to part ways with him and sign a younger defender with higher potential and lower wages.

Tottenham cannot compete with the wealthiest clubs financially and spending £204,000 a week on a mediocre player for another season could have been a blunder.

The North London giants have missed out on Champions League qualification and it remains to be seen whether they can attract the top talents this summer.

Postecoglou has a vital summer transfer window ahead of him, and he will have to plug the weaknesses in his squad.
