According to transfer insider Dean Jones, Tottenham may have the edge over Arsenal in signing Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to sign a couple of center-backs in the upcoming transfer window, with the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez likely to leave.
While they were linked with top-class defenders under previous manager Antonio Conte, their current unstable situation and absence from the Champions League next season could make it challenging to attract high-profile players.
They have been recently linked with a move for Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, with The Telegraph reporting that Harry Kane himself has recommended the defender.
But Dean Jones believes Guehi is a genuine option for Tottenham. He claims that Arsenal are also interested in him but Spurs have the edge over their local rivals as they will be able to offer regular playing time.
He told GiveMeSport:
“The Harry Maguire interest is of course going to make headlines because of who he is and where his reputation is right now, but he is not the only option out there by any means. One of the other Premier League ones we should expect them to thoroughly look into is that of Marc Guehi.
“He is also admired by Arsenal, but Spurs might have the edge on them in terms of being able to offer regular first-team football, which is going to be vital in a season that leads into the European Championship as he will aim to be part of that England squad.”
While Tottenham’s pursuit of Guehi remains uncertain, the club’s focus on strengthening their defensive line is evident. The upcoming transfer window will provide a clearer picture of Tottenham’s intentions and their ability to secure their desired targets
