Transfer Insider claims Tottenham star could potentially leave on a free transfer

By Mehdi Gokal -

Transfer Insider Dean Jones has warned the club that they would make a big mistake if they allowed Harry Kane to join a Premier League rival on a free.

Kane’s contract with Spurs expires next summer, and if he does not renew it this year, he could leave on a free transfer.

However, financially, this would be a significant setback for Tottenham as they could lose their most valuable asset for free when they could sell him for £100m this summer.

Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with the England striker, with Manchester United reportedly making him their top target.

While Kane is keen to stay in England with his sights set on breaking Alan Shearer’s record, joining Premier League rivals like Manchester United or Chelsea could be a possibility with Stamford Bridge also a tempting destination if Pochettino joins the Blues.

But, Kane himself may not want to risk tarnishing his legacy at Tottenham by joining a London rival.

However, Jones believes Tottenham are taking a massive risk by allowing Kane to run down his contract.

He told GiveMeSport:

“I can understand if the new manager says they will only come if Kane is here and then Tottenham hope, in the meantime, they can somehow talk Kane into a new contract. I guess that’s a possibility. But it’s so risky to allow Harry Kane, your greatest goalscorer ever, to leave for one of your rivals for literally nothing.”

Kane, who is about to turn 30 and has not won a silverware in his career, will be keen to win trophies as he approaches the final years of his career.

His future is still very uncertain, and it will undoubtedly be one of the transfer sagas this summer unless the new manager that Levy appoints can convince him to sign a new contract.
