“What kind of football club is it?”- Pundit brutally slams Daniel Levy for his latest decision ; claims he has lost the plot”

Former West Ham and Celtic striker turned pundit Frank McAvennie has slammed Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy for allowing Harry Kane to have a say in their next managerial appointment.

Tottenham sacked Antonio Conte back in March and still have not found a permanent replacement for him. Since his sacking they have had two interim managers, with Cristian Stellini sacked after just 4 games and Ryan Mason currently managing the side until the end of the season while the club looks for a suitable long-term replacement for Conte.

A number of managers have been linked with the club since then. High-profile names such as Julian Naglesmann and Luis Enrique with the former the frontrunner for the job since some time.

Other names to be linked include Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou among others.

Pressure is on Levy to get the next appointment right. Another pressing problem for Spurs is Harry Kane’s future at the club. His contract expires next summer and after yet another trophy-less season, the 29-year-old is strongly linked with a move away with Manchester United very keen on signing him.

Their next managerial appointment could be crucial to convince Kane to sign a new contract with the club and it has been reported that the club have allowed their talisman to have a say in who he would like as Spurs’ new boss.

This decision has been slammed by Frank McAvennie who called it an “embarrassment” claiming that Levy has “lost the plot”.

He told Football Insider:

“I can’t fathom that they are asking a player who he wants as a manager. For me it shows you the embarrassment of Tottenham.

“The chairman has lost the plot. First of all he had a meeting with the boys to ask them about getting rid of the manager, I have never heard of that at a football club.

“Harry Kane, Eric Dier and some of the other boys are dictating how that club is run, it beggars belief. Now they are talking about who they want as a manager, what kind of football club is it?“

Should Kane have a say?

While its true that no player is bigger than the club and that these decisions need to be taken at the top level, it can be argued that Tottenham’s case is a bit different at the moment.

Kane is their biggest star at the club and losing him could be catastrophic. It is not the most bizarre idea to seek the striker’s opinion however, the decision ultimately should be taken by the club’s hierarchy with the consensus of the new sporting director.

In any case, Tottenham needs to make the right decision and appoint a manager who can help the club return to winning ways. The next appointment is crucial, and Levy needs to take all factors into account while making the decision.
