Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a surprise move for the Portuguese international attacker Joao Felix.
The 24-year-old is currently on loan at Spanish club Barcelona from Atletico Madrid. He has been quite impressive this season, scoring seven goals and picking up five assists across all competitions. He has impressed with his creativity, goal-scoring and versatility.
According to a report from Fichajes, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is an admirer of the forward and he has put the attacker’s name ‘on the table’ as a potential target for the summer transfer window.
Felix is expected to return to his parent club upon the expiry of his loan deal, and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham submit an official proposal to sign in permanently.
Barcelona are going through financial limitations and they might not be able to afford the attacker. A report from Marca claimed in October that Atletico Madrid Madrid could demand around €70-80 million for the attacker.
Felix has previously been on loan at Premier League club Chelsea, but he had a mediocre spell with them. It remains to be seen whether he is prepared to return to English football once again.
Tottenham could certainly use a quality attacker like him who can lead the line for them and operate in the wide areas as well. On paper, the 24-year-old seems tailor-made for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou’s attacking system could get the best out of him.
He has shown that he can be a portent attacker in the right system and his performances at Barcelona have been encouraging. Postecoglou could get the best out of him if he joins Tottenham.
Felix was regarded as a world-class talent during his time at Benfica, and there is no doubt that he could develop into a quality Premier League attacker in the right team. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are prepared to pay a premium for him.
