26-year-old La Liga ace turned down a move to Tottenham in January

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign Franck Kessie from Barcelona during the January transfer window.

According to a report from the Spanish publication Sport, the 26-year-old was a target for Antonio Conte last month but the Londoners failed to bring him to the Premier League.

Tottenham were hoping to add more depth and quality to their midfield with the signing of the Ivory Coast international but Kessie opted to continue at the Spanish club.

Apparently, the player refused a move to the Premier League and Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez was not keen on sanctioning his departure either.

The 26-year-old has had a difficult time since he moved to the Spanish club and he has started just twice in the Spanish league.

A player of his quality will want to play more regularly and a move away from Barcelona in January would have been ideal for the player.

However, he has chosen to continue at Camp Nou and it remains to be seen whether he can force his way back into the starting lineup.

Meanwhile, Tottenham need to add more depth to their midfield in the coming months and it remains to be seen whether they decide to return for Kessie at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old is clearly just a squad player for the Spanish club and he could look to move on in search of regular game time during the summer transfer window. A move to Spurs could be the ideal next step in his career.
