28-year-old target currently training away from the squad amid links to Tottenham

By Saikat -

Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet continues to be linked with a move away from the club this summer.

The 28-year-old was on loan at Tottenham Hotspur last season and there were rumours that the London club could look to sign him permanently.

However, the player has returned to his parent club upon the expiry of his loan deal and it remains to be seen whether Spurs decide to sign him before the window closes.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo via SportWitness, a move to Tottenham is far from imminent.

The defender was recently given a week off by the Spanish club so that he could complete a permanent exit from the club and he has been training alone at home.

However, a transfer has not materialised yet and Lenglet is set to join up with the Barcelona squad next week.

The French defender does not have a future at Barcelona and his failure to secure a move away from the club so far will be a problem for the Spanish outfit.

Barcelona are going through financial difficulties and they could certainly use some funds from his sale. Furthermore, getting his wages off their books will be a boost as well.

Meanwhile, Spurs need to add defensive depth this summer and the 28-year-old would be a useful option for them. He has played in the Premier League already and he knows the club well.

Tottenham will probably hope to sign him for a knockdown price and it will be interesting to see if the two clubs can come to an agreement soon.
