“Certainly not a defender” Pundit says this man is holding Tottenham back

By Bruce Grove -

Former West Ham man, Frank McAvennie, insists that Tottenham’s problem is playing players who aren’t good enough like Eric Dier.

The Englishman has remained in the Tottenham lineup under several managers.

However, Dier’s selection is always the subject of debate and after losing his place in the England national team, some Tottenham fans keep wondering why he is good enough to play for their club.

In a scathing assessment of his continuous appearances for Spurs, McAvennie says Dier is neither good enough to be a defender or a midfielder.

He has lost his place in England national team, yet he is still starting matches for Tottenham.

He insists that with players like the Englishman in their squad, Spurs would never make progress.

“Where do you start with Eric Dier?” McAvennie told Football Insider.

“He’s not a midfielder and he’s certainly not a defender. Tottenham fans are wondering why their team keeps losing.

“It’s because players like Dier are still there. He’s not good enough, it’s that simple.

“He doesn’t get in the England squad and England have two decent centre-backs at a push.

“He’s nowhere near. Tottenham will not succeed with Dier in the team. He’s awful.

“It’s plain to see he’s not good enough. I really don’t understand how he gets a game.”

The Lilywhites are now in a very tough situation after the 3-0 loss to Manchester United.

We could finish this season worse than the last campaign and that would be nothing short of disastrous.

Nuno Espirito Santo is being blamed for the poor showing of his stars, but the Portuguese gaffer has been forced to field players like Dier and Ben Davies because of a lack of options.

If Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino can fail to win silverware with this team, it sort of tells you the squad is simply not good enough.

He is vital to the defence as he speaks Portugeezer & Espanol and a little English as well.
Undroppable even if he drops clangers all the time,

Dier was only meant to be in a back 3 either starts there or to drop back in from midfield if we start with a back 4. He’s become a main stay which is an issue Jose caused by stating he was a CB.

Never going to forget that night, as well as the one when Munich came to town.

Dier, Winks, Davies and Dele.

No courage or conviction between any of these lightweights. I remember Zagreb.

ECL level defender, barely. Not good enough bar a few good performances under Poch and one decent sub appearance under Jose.

Offers little and gets targeted by every half-decent team in the league. But he still has some advocates among the fans. No one is more tolerant towards mediocrity than the fans who are still looking at Dier, Winks, Davies and Dele on the squad roster, hoping they rediscover their 2017 selves.

He goes on like we know nothing. We’ve been saying that for ages now. Thick hammer trying to sound intelligent.

Next thing he’ll be telling us is Ben Davies is a sub standard left back.
