‘Chelsea have work to do’ Great to see Spurs getting mainstream broadcaster praise

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur has had one of the more impressive transfer windows thus far this summer. The north London club is investing in improving the squad that’s up to the standards of manager Antonio Conte.

During a segment on talkSPORT, Sam Matterface applauds Spurs chairman Daniel Levy for giving the Italian tactician what he wants during this window after it seemed there was a possibility that the club wouldn’t back him.

Over the last few weeks, Tottenham has added the likes of Richarlison and Yves Bissouma. Furthermore, they aren’t done with their business, as they still need to address their right wing-back and central defence position (although Clément Lenglet is reportedly on his way).

“Antonio Conte has been backed by Daniel Levy. I think he had to do that, really, if you bring in Antonio Conte to give him what he wants; otherwise, no point in hiring in the first place,” Matterface said.

“And there was a moment where we thought they might not give him what he wanted when he was threatening to walk out after that game against Burnley, but ultimately seems to have secured the talents of Richarlison. Looks like they’re going to get Djed Spence as well to strengthen their defence. They strengthened their midfield; they’ve strengthened their attack.”

Furthermore, Matterface puts Spurs in a better position than Chelsea to challenge the top two clubs in, Liverpool and Manchester City, for the Premier League title next season.

“I think they’ll give it a good go next year, and they’re probably, but at the moment, they look like the closest challenges to the top two to me. I think Chelsea have got a lot of work to do. Yeah. They were fourth last year, and they’ve improved. And Chelsea has lost players,” Matterface said.

Tottenham hasn’t won a trophy since 2008, and it appears Conte is ready to end the drought next season with the summer spending he and Spurs are having.

The way Dortmund play is to make everyone in the team work together to make 1 or 2 players look better. They are a selling team, they system allows players to look much better then they are. Haaland is very good at his age,on the crisp of being world class. But there is a reason why Pep wanted Kane instead of Haaland. Kane is perfect for the City system. Haaland is more like a Zlaten type of forward. If you watch the german league ,he relies on being faster than the slower CBs playing in the german league. He will not get it easy against english teams who almost all of them have defenders with pace and strength to burn. He will still score 20 goals a season and that’s all that city need

Agree 100% with what you say. A world class CB ,someone who is established and approaching 30, koulibally is my first choice, he is the best CB in Italy ,he will win us games that we normally loose. If Chelsea get their other targets ,we have free reign on Koulibally, he wants to leave Napoli, Napoli need to sell some players. He wont cost more than 45 mill with high wages of around 200k a week

Chelsea need reinforcements to challenge
. They were short of goals last season & I dont think Sterling is the answer… losing Rudiger is huge for them too
..so with a good start we should be challenging for 3rd… the gooners still look short in defence & the midfield balance & I cant see Man Utd finishing top 4… will take them 2-3 years I reckon.

We will see if City have a better no.9 than Harry. The German league ain’t a patch on the Prem and Haaland gets plenty of injuries.

We are close to having a really good squad. For me though, the difference will be in obtaining a couple more genuine world-class players.

If we had a Van Dijk and De Bryune in our squad, I think we would be challenging for the title. It’s these, admittedly, very expensive signings that make the difference.

We appear to have some finances available – my advice would be push the boat out, get genuine quality in to finalise the pieces in the squad puzzle, and see what happens.

Clearly the bar has been raised and expectations will be higher, as they should be. Nevertheless, let’s not be unrealistic. We are not going to finish above City and Liverpool in the league, however, we have a very realistic chance of finishing 3rd. Chelsea are in a state of flux, Man Utd in utter turmoil and Arsenal were worse than us last season and have added less pieces. So if we can finish 3rd, reach the knockout stages of the CL and win a domestic trophy, that would be a great season in my opinion and would hopefully prompt Antonio to sign a contract extension.

Being the 3rd best team in the prem wont be enough for Tonio. League Cup def. wont be FA Cup borderline I think he wants to prove himself in the CL and throw in a PL title as well. Good enough for me.
