‘Go for him’: Tottenham urged to ‘make a statement’ and sign 29-yr-old PL star

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur keeper Hugo Lloris has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks.

The 36-year-old Frenchman has not been at his best this season and his error-prone performances have cost his side valuable points.

Tottenham have been linked with a number of goalkeepers including the Everton star Jordan Pickford.

The 29-year-old England international recently signed a new contract with Everton, but former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor believes that the contract extension does not mean anything and he has urged Spurs to sign him this summer.

He said to Football Insider: “I’ve said this all season. Even before he signed the contract, it was clear that Pickford replacing Lloris is just an easy transfer for Spurs.

“He’s English, he’s a top goalkeeper, he’s experienced, he can play from the back. Even though he’s signed a new contract – it means nothing. I would still go for him. Make a statement.

“Goalkeepers are a big part of where you need to go right as a football club, and Lloris is not good enough.”

Pickford has proven himself to be a reliable goalkeeper in the Premier League over the years and he could be a quality replacement for Lloris.

The French international has a contract in the summer of 2024. He could still be an important member of the squad for the North London giants, but they will have to find someone better to start regularly for them.

It remains to be seen whether they come forward with a concrete proposal to sign Pickford at the end of the season.

Everton have been fighting for their survival in the Premier League over the last two seasons and Pickford might feel that this is the right time for him to join a bigger club and compete for trophies.

A move to Spurs would certainly be a step up in his career and he is likely to be tempted to move on.
