“He is first through the door” Pundit names the first position Conte would strengthen

By Bruce Grove -

Former West Ham man, Frank McAvennie has insisted that Antonio Conte will look to sign a new centre back at Spurs and mentions James Tarkowski of Burnley as one name who could join the club.

Spurs have some of the finest and most expensive Premier League players in their squad, but most of them have underachieved under the likes of Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo.

Conte knows top managers have lost their job at Spurs because they cannot get the best out of the players at the cub.

The Italian would be smart to know the positions he needs to strengthen as fast as possible and act to sort that out.

Although the club has a decent quota of defenders, not all of them have shown suitable form consistently.

McAvennie believes Conte would look to address the problem at the back as soon as he can to give his team a solid base.

“A defender like Tarkowski, he is first through the door,” McAvennie told Football Insider.

“Conte will have known that going in. He’s not blind. He will have been keeping an eye on the scores and seen Tottenham shipping too many goals.

“I could go on until the cows come home about how bad that defence is.

“They have a world-class attack in Kane and Son, you can’t deny that.

“They then have a decent enough midfield and a poor defence. It just makes sense to get someone in there.

“Tarkowski, would he do it? He would be an improvement for sure.”

The Boy Hotspur Says

Spurs should support Conte to get the best players he can add to his squad. However, the Lilywhites have too many centre backs now.

The likes of Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez have been struggling to play regularly so far.

The club could and should offload either of them before a new defender is added.

Ah Frank… he nearly got me with

“They have a world-class attack in Kane and Son, you can’t deny that.

but then he absolutely ruined it with

they then have a decent enough midfield and a poor defence

Our defence is better than our midfield now; that’s where we’re struggling and will continue to do so until someone works out how to get that area working again; I’m pretty sure Conte will work that out in time, but it’s the area I’d expect to see more focus on in the transfer market.

Frankie Mac talking out of his anus again. The liklihood of Patrici and Conte targeting a centre half from Burnley seems pretty remote!

Not sure you can a e s constructive response to a statement like that. We do not need to sign anymore maybe. But these aimless brain fart are enough to rile up the base. The problems are so projected no matter how much you beat the subject, we need take a break and hope Conte just the the other goners give some hope of being respectable again. I don’t like former players who are not pundits spouting off about other clubs and forget about theirs. Hate Roy Keane, but you know he is equal opportunity mud slinger.

If we sell Alli, Winks and Dier for example, won’t we have a problem with our home grown contingent quota? An English goalkeeper to replace Lloris would be sensible as I see that every player we have been linked with since Conte took over has been foreign.

And probably quite cheap which our appalling little emperor values most highly.

If Conte sticks to the three centre backs then hell have to rotate and another quality centre back would be a useful addition.
