‘I don’t think…’: Tim Sherwood makes a prediction on Tottenham man’s future

By Saikat -

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has shared his thoughts on the future of Antonio Conte.

The Italian is expected to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires but Spurs retain an option to extend it for another season.

There have been rumours that Tottenham could look to agree on a new deal with Conte in the coming weeks.

However, Sherwood feels that Conte will leave the north London club at the end of the season. He has been linked with a return to Italy.

He said to the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast: “No. No, I really don’t. If they win the Champions League, which is obviously a long shot.

“If they finish in the top 4, which is once again an incredible achievement last year and there’s a few dropped away.

“He’s done a brilliant job to take them where they are. Forget what’s done in the past, they’re 5th in the league now. They’re chasing 4th, good chance they can get there. So, no, I don’t think he’ll be there!”

It will be interesting to see if the 53-year-old is willing to commit his long-term future to the Premier League club soon.

Managers like Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto de Zerbi have been linked as potential replacements.

Conte is a world-class manager and his departure will come as a massive blow for Tottenham. They have backed him significantly in the transfer market and it would be quite disappointing if he decided to abandon the project before winning a trophy.

Meanwhile, Sherwood believes that Conte has done an exceptional job at the club and it would be a superb achievement if he managed to help them secure Champions League qualification once again.

The reality is that Tottenham simply do not have the squad to compete with clubs like Manchester City and Conte’s squad will need significant investment in order to match up to the Premier League elite.

It remains to be seen whether Daniel Levy is prepared to provide him with such assurances and convince him to sign a new deal.
