Tottenham Hotspur’s rising star Micky van de Ven has been turning heads in the Premier League since his arrival last summer, but it seems even his teammates were initially unaware of his talents.
James Maddison, speaking after Spurs’ recent victory over Nottingham Forest, confessed to having no prior knowledge of the Dutch centre-back before his signing with the club.
Despite not being a household name, Van de Ven has made a significant impact since his €40 million transfer from Wolfsburg.

Maddison praised his teammate’s shooting abilities, particularly highlighting his stunning goal in the recent match against Forest.
He commended the recruitment team for securing Van de Ven’s signature, acknowledging his own oversight in not recognising the defender’s caliber earlier.
He said (via Express and Star):
“Shooting is not his forte if you see him in training every day but we’ll take them ones that go flying into the top corner. He is a special player, he is top-level and credit to the recruitment team because I had never heard of him before we signed him.
“The joke is on me really because a player of that calibre, I should probably have heard of in Europe. A brilliant player, a brilliant trainer, a brilliant lad and a really good guy.”
Van de Ven has made a massive impact at Spurs
Van de Ven’s impressive performances have made him a consistent starter under manager Ange Postecoglou, featuring in 20 Premier League matches for Spurs this season and scoring two goals.
Additionally, he recently earned the title of the fastest player in the English top flight, recording a speed of 37.38 km/h during a match against Brentford in February.
As Van de Ven continues to shine on the pitch, speculation grows about potential interest from other top clubs looking to secure his services.
