“He was outstanding” – Pundit singles out Tottenham star for his performance against Luton

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur mounted a comeback from a goal down to secure a 2-1 victory over Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.

Tottenham conceded the first goal as they have so often this season, with Tahith Chong giving the visitors the lead just inside three minutes.

Spurs kept pushing for the equaliser, with two big chances coming their way. However, they remained behind going into the second half.

Ange Postecoglou’s side’s efforts were rewarded with a stroke of good fortune in the 2nd half when Brennan Johnson, who had just come on, drilled a teasing ball across the goal.

Luton defender Issa Kabore, under pressure from Werner, inadvertently turned it into his own net.

With both teams pushing for the winner, it was Spurs who succeeded in their pursuit. Werner’s cross found Son’s path thanks to Johnson’s assist, and the Tottenham captain smashed home a decisive goal with just four minutes left on the clock.

The comeback win for the Lilywhites wouldn’t have been possible without Brennan Johnson, whose entrance at half-time, replacing Dejan Kulusevski, proved to be a masterstroke from Postecoglou.

Tim Sherwood praises Brennan Johnson

And former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood showered praise on the Welsh winger, who played a role in both of the afternoon’s goals for the hosts.

Johnson created three chances in his 45 minutes on the pitch, including an enticing cross from the right-hand side that led to an own goal, and laying the ball for Son to score the winning goal.

Speaking on Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports, Sherwood lauded the 22-year-old’s impact, stating:

“Tottenham can bring on players like Brennan Johnson, who came on at half-time for Kulusevski. He was outstanding in the second half.

“Never sulked that he wasn’t starting. Rolled his sleeves and proved his manager that he deserves a start. I am sure he starts the next game because he was outstanding in the second period.”
