Tottenham Hotspur will look to hold talks for Clement Lenglet with Barcelona this week.
A report from the Spanish publication SPORT claims that the two clubs are set to meet on Tuesday before a friendly that will be played between the two clubs. ‘There is a summit scheduled for Tuesday’ as per the report.
The report claims that talks have been planned to discuss the future of the 28-year-old defender.
Lenglet did reasonably well during his loan spell at Tottenham last season and he could be a handy option for Ange Postecoglou next season as well. He does not have a future at Barcelona and it makes sense for him to return to the Premier League with Tottenham.
Spurs need defensive depth and quality and the 28-year-old would certainly improve them.
Players like Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez could all leave the club before the summer transfer window closes and Spurs will need multiple signings to fill the void.
They have already signed Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers and they are closing in on a deal to sign Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.
Lenglet could be the final piece of the jigsaw as Tottenham look to rebuild their defence ahead of the new season. They conceded 63 goals in the league last season and the defence is an area that is in need of reinforcements.
If they can tighten up at the back next season there is no reason why they cannot return to the top four and qualify for the Champions League. Tottenham already have a top-class attack at their disposal which has been boosted by the arrival of James Maddison.
The 28-year-old is reportedly valued at €15 million and he is not a part of Barcelona’s plans going forward. Spurs will be hoping to sign him for a more reasonable price, given his stature at the Spanish club.
