Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a move for the Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie at the start of the season.
However, the 26-year-old ended up staying at Camp Nou. It seems that the midfielder could be available at the end of the season.
A report from the Spanish publication Sport claims that Tottenham remain ‘interested’ in signing the 26-year-old midfield powerhouse, and they are aware of the fact that Barcelona are now ‘willing to negotiate’ his transfer.
Kessie joined Barcelona on a free transfer from AC Milan, but he has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth under Xavi Hernandez. The midfielder needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and it is evident that Barcelona will not be able to provide him with the platform he requires.
A move to the Premier League would be the ideal next step in his career. Kessie has the physical and technical attributes to thrive in English football, and Tottenham could be the ideal destination for him.
Tottenham have not been able to rotate their midfield options because of the lack of depth in their squad and Kessie would be an ideal fit for them. The 26-year-old could start alongside the likes of Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur next season. He will add defensive cover and a powerful physical presence in the Tottenham midfield.
The North London giants have been vulnerable defensively and someone like Kessie could help him tighten up at the back. His arrival would also allow the attacking players to operate with more freedom.
Given the fact that he was a free signing, he could be available for a reasonable price, and Tottenham must look to snap him up.
