Tottenham could sell 28-year-old this summer to sign “next level” players

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to sanction the departure of Giovani Lo Celso at the end of the season.

According to former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton, the 28-year-old Argentine international is not a part of the club’s long-term plans and the proceeds from his departure will be used to sign players who can take the club to the “next level”.

Hutton believes that the versatile midfielder has not been able to establish himself as a regular starter for the north London club and he is likely to be moved on in the summer. The player has impressed during his cameos, but it seems that he has not managed to earn the trust of manager Ange Postecoglou.

He said to Football Insider: “It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for Lo Celso. He’s in and then out of the squad, then out on loan.

“Personally, I couldn’t deal with that. I’d want to go somewhere where I know that if I play to my level, I will be in the team.

“I don’t see that for Lo Celso at this moment in time if I’m totally honest.

“If Ange wants to reinvest and get other players in the door that he feels can take Spurs to the next level, then players like Lo Celso will probably be moved on.

“I can see the fringe players at Tottenham like Lo Celso leaving this summer so Ange can invest in the squad.”

It will be interesting to see where he ends up at the end of the season. He has been linked with a return to Spain and he could prove to be a quality addition for most clubs. The midfielder is at the peak of his powers and he should look to play regularly. Tottenham will not be able to provide him with that opportunity and it makes sense for him to move on. He will look to get his career back on track with regular football.

Tottenham are currently pushing for Champions League qualification and they need a deeper squad next year in order to navigate the increased number of fixtures. They will need to bring in a number of additions during the summer transfer window and selling their fringe players to boost the transfer budget could prove to be a wise decision.
