Blow for Tottenham ahead of their match against Newcastle as star player set to be sidelined

By Mehdi Gokal -

Injuries persist for Tottenham Hotspur this season, with the club set to be without their centre-forward Richarlison for the Newcastle game.

Spurs are scheduled to travel to the northeast for their Premier League clash against Newcastle United today, but they will do so without their Brazilian striker.

Richarlison was also sidelined for the Lilywhites’ recent league game against Nottingham Forest last Sunday, as he continues to struggle with knee issues.

During the pre-game press conference, Ange Postecoglou updated on Richarlison’s injury, confirming the player’s continued absence for the upcoming week.

While the targetman is on the verge of coming back, the choice has been made to focus on ensuring his fitness for the crucial upcoming matches, given the break ahead.

As stated by the club’s correspondent Alasdair Gold on Football London, Postecoglou said:

“Yeah, he’ll miss this week. He is close but with the weekend off next week, we feel and with the last two rounds stacked with games for us, we feel having him ready for that is more important, but he’s progressing quite well.”

Tottenham will have a two-week break after the Newcastle fixture, with their next game, a North London derby, scheduled for the end of the month on April 28th.

It is believed that Richarlison will be fit by then, as he has been dealing with the knee issue since last month when he was away with Brazil’s national team for the international break.

The 26-year-old revealed that his knee is causing discomfort, and he doesn’t feel fully fit.

Despite this, he made two brief substitute appearances for Spurs since then, playing 5 minutes against Luton Town last month and 8 minutes against West Ham earlier this month.

Postecoglou would hope to have one of his primary goalscorers in optimal condition, as the Lilywhites are set to face Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Burnley, and Man City in back-to-back Premier League games.
