‘Win a trophy’ – Tottenham arrival lays out goals for the upcoming season

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur defender Clement Lenglet will be leaned upon to be the central defender that can play alongside Cristian Romero and Eric Dier on the left side of the backline. The 27-year-old arrived on loan from FC Barcelona and explained his decision to come to the north London club.

Lenglet hinted at the prospect of playing under manager Antonio Conte as a possible influence leading him to elect a move to Tottenham over other destinations. The France international stated that the Italian tactician is “Mister” and that playing for the Spurs boss is an honor.

“Conte is a ‘Mister’ who has won a lot of trophies, he has a lot of experience, and for me, it’s a beautiful moment to work with the ‘Mister’ and to learn all he knows about football,” Lenglet said, per talkSPORT.

The Barcelona loanee also stated his goals for the upcoming season as he would like to showcase his capabilities to either remain with the north London club permanently or at least impress to earn a stay at another club should it come to that for Lenglet.

After a dismal time with the La Liga giants, the French defender hopes that the move to Spurs helps kick start his career.

“First of all, I want to be a good team-mate, to be a defender who can be strong, aggressive and help the group to win the ball. It’s very important first of all to be a good defender, after that, a good player and to help the team,” Lenglet said.

“I would like to play a lot of games, to win, because if you play and you don’t win, you are not happy. I want to win a lot of games to be happy, to fight at the height of the classification. It’s a dream, I would like to win a trophy here in Tottenham.”
